Much of it <strong>you<\/strong> can control, funnel away or stop, by expending a little energy (and I mean only a little) day to day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Monty Python SPAM\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_bW4vEo1F4E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Unsolicited email generally comes from sites that we have signed up to and <em>&#8220;of course&#8221;<\/em> we read the Terms &amp; Conditions when we agreed to them.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You know it is unsolicited because it is almost useful (maybe sometimes?) but generally gets a reaction of &#8220;I never signed up for that?!?&#8221;.  Been to a trade show recently?  Signed up for a new account?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unsolicited mail can usually be handled by using the unsubscribe button.  Particularly if the email is sent via a reputable email handler eg Mailchimp, Campaign Monitor or Aweber for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>True spam &#8211; obtaining your contact details and contacting you without explicit permission generally comes from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>other services getting hacked (Facebook, Yahoo, BT to name but a few)<\/li><li>leaked databases<\/li><li>the email you display on your website (Robots grabbing it)<\/li><li>funny\/public service announcement chain emails (the chain is valuable)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is harder to handle as you <em><strong>do not<\/strong><\/em> want to hit unsubscribe on this &#8211; you only end up confirming the email is accurate and have much more spam!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adding this to your &#8220;junk&#8221; folder is a start but won&#8217;t cure it.
