Last week, Apple kicked off it’s WWDC (World Wide Developer Conference) with a keynote showing off the next steps in it’s software.
This is essentially software Christmas day and where the true power of macOS and iOS reside, in my opinion.
Here is a bumbling of my thoughts and excitements. It is neither comprehensive or exhaustive but if you want to know more, lets chat over a coffee!
I really like my Apple watch. I don’t love it but it is becoming substantially indispensable. WatchOS 3 update, I suspect will make me fall in love with it.
Couple of things to remember – it’s a watch! I cannot over state that.
It’s great at notifications. It’s amazing as a health tracker. It’s a watch.
Everything thing else is could/will/should do is up for debate but seriously, it fits on your wrist and does this stuff… impressive if you ask me. Here are some of the things to come:
faster launching apps
It is not a rapid experience at present. In fact, you can understand the disdain and “i don’t get it” comments regarding the watch as it is not fast to respond. Apple is touting as the update to be fast. The early developers are saying the same. I am chomping to get this update.
new watch faces
Give me a minnie mouse watch face no.! Colour match it to my strap? Oh go on then!
emergency service call
Press and hold the button on the side of your watch to auto call ‘999’ no matter what country you are in and also email your emergency contacts your current location.
For this alone, I will be buying my nearest and dearest a watch.
releases: in the “fall”, which commonly translates to September
macOS – “Sierra”
unlock my mac by walking up to it…. Via my watch
Give me now!!!!
copy something on my iPhone, paste on my Mac
GIve me now!!
ApplePay on the web (a la PayPal)
Give me now!!
If I happened to be the kind of person to have stuff on my desktop and have 2 computers – i do. Wouldn’t it be nice to have my desktop sync? It will!
Come to my mac now!
… Got to wait until the “fall”
There is a ton of new stuff but here are the things i am looking forward to.
Music & iTunes is unashamdedly pants and overly complex at the moment. Don’t understand iTunes and syncing and what is yours and what is in the cloud? You are not alone
Lets see if they have fixed it… Or at least made massive steps towards it.
remove Apple apps from your homescreen
Not announced in the keynote but coming none the less. Not more “apple folder” of unused apps.
Lots of fun new emoji/animations coming to messages. Can’t wait to upset my friends with unnecessary fun messages!
Transcriptions of my voicemails and integrations of VOIP services. Quite geeky but hugely helpful for any business owner…
- see your voicemail and not have to listen
- Have your business phone ring like another call.
The ability to learn to program in Swift on an iPad. So many possibilities…
If i had kids, this would be on their iPad.
Best part – completely free.
Too much excitement, i’ve already signed up to the beta of anything i can (it is my job after all).
Call anytime to chat, better still bring wine or coffee… Now where did i misplace the summer sun… Somewhere in this puddle…
